The first Golden Retriever was AKC Registered in 1925. The breed was developed by Dudley Marjoribanks, the first Lord Tweedmouth from 1840 to 1890 in the Scottish Highlands. He bred his “Yellow Retriever” with a now extinct, Tweed Water Spaniel and Irish Setter and a Bloodhound. By 1908 the English had a new breed in the dog shows and were brought to the United States from Canada.
