The Poodle is the National Dog of France. The Poodle is doing pretty well in the USA at #7 in the AKC’s List of Breeds. The Poodle is an Active and Very Smart Dog. He was trained as a Caniche or “duck dog” in France. The Poodle is an excellent swimmer and was a retriever for 400 years. The Standard Poodle is the only dog eligible for the AKC Retriever Hunting Tests even though it is in the Non-Sporting Class.
