The United States Air Force flew under the US Army from 1909 to 1947 under many different names. On September 18, 1947, President Truman gave the United States Air Force its first Birthday Party! In 1949 "Lucky Lady II" demonstrated that a US plane could fly non-stop around the world. That was just the beginning. In 1952 The B-52 was added to the inventory of the Air Force and has been used in Service in every War since. It may keep going till 2050! In 1998, the Air Force was working on updating itself to the times. This included the changing of Emblems and making more since the Air Force had grown. The new "Winged" emblem was designed from Henry Harley 'Hap' Arnold wings he wore during his service to our country. General Arnold is the only General to Hold a 5 Star General Rank from two services, The Army and the Air Force.
