The Weimaraner started out as a hunting dog for big game in Germany but since Germany had little big game it became more of a bird and upland game dog. It is also great in competition. Weimaraners need training as soon as possible or you won't own them they will own you! They are great with kids and other pets, They have high energy so they need lots of exercise. The Weimaraner was recognized by the AKC in 1943.
